My name is Gussy
It was on a snowy day 14 years ago that I arrived at Emily’s loft, my new forever home. To be completely honest, Emily and I didn’t have a smooth start. When she brought me home, I found that she had set my litter box and my food and water bowls all next to each other. That didn’t work for me, so I mixed everything together and made a mess. It seems she learned her lesson because I’ve not seen that arrangement again. I had much to teach her about my needs and wants, but she learned fast and we quickly became besties.
The truth is that I chose Emily as my human. She was visiting her sister who had just adopted me. I wasn’t having much of it and was hiding in the narrow opening between the walls in the basement. I’d been lying low there for two whole days- 48 straight hours.
And then, suddenly, there was Emily, sitting on the basement stairs. I guess she was there to visit the newly adopted kitty. Me! That gave me a bit of confidence, and she looked so friendly that I crept toward her and timidly brushed myself against her. As you’ve probably figured out by now, the rest is history. I went home with Emily.
We’re going through a bit of a tough time right now. A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer in my lymphocytes connected with feline leukemia. Emily has me going through conventional treatment. She’s also put me on a homeopathic regime, a more natural type of treatment.
It has been hard on us both, but I believe her when she tells me we’re going to beat this thing together. I’m keeping my whiskered chin up, and I’ll keep you posted on my progress!
